How was Village Heights able to Partner with Houston Responds?
Hurricane Harvey in 2017 left hundreds of Houston homes in ruin and volunteers pitching in wherever they could during emergency response. Two years later, Houston Responds was still tirelessly equipping individuals and churches to rebuild homes and restore the community. Village Heights was connected with Leola Davis who had been living in her flooded home for over a year despite the water and mold damage. Village Heights created a plan to completely remodel and furnish her home with the support of Houston Responds. Houston Responds provided all the construction materials and Village Heights volunteers:
- Demoed down to the studs
- Removed flooring
- Installed sheetrock and cabinets
- Insulated the house
- Painted the walls
- Landscaped the yards
- Added fixtures, furnishings, and decor
Two months later, Ms. Davis walked through her new home for the first time with a grateful heart and a few (happy) tears! By utilizing our collective talents, Village Heights was able to restore a home, but more importantly, hope for the future ahead. This project epitomized our core values of being Christ-centered, community crafted, and audaciously generous!
